Blue Crab Bay Co -It all Began in the Kitchen

Blue Crabs Chesapeake
"I had always had this dream that I was going to be doing my own thing", Pam Barefoot says in an interview with La Vie Claire. I love dream come true stories! But Pam didn't try to figure out what she would love to do, instead she looked at her locale and asked herself, "What can I do that's here?"

Chesapeake Bay
Here being the Chesapeake Bay, the countries largest estuary, home to blue crabs, oysters, and clams. Pam realized that there were few specialty food and gift basket businesses in the area, and she determined that this would be the basis for her business: Blue Crab Bay Co. She set up shop in her kitchen, started mixing seasonings and dreaming up regional combinations. And this is a woman who admits to having hated cooking! Then she sent out brochures, sold her first products, attended gift shows, then began to sell retail and later wholesale. Now, more than twenty years later Blue Crab Co occupies more than 20,000-square-feet of space for offices, warehouse, shipping department, and a retail store, and also distributes regional products by other companies under the name Bay Beyond.
